During Prince William and Kate Middleton's recent visit to a homeless shelter for young people in London, the heir to the throne was praised as a powerful motivator of disadvantaged young people.
Prince William is the patron of the Centrepoint homeless charity and once famously slept rough on the streets of London for a few days in 2009.
Why? Because the fabulously rich and amazingly privileged occasionally get bored with spending their money, riding horses, cruising on yachts, drinking champagne and taking exotic holidays, and their big caring hearts yearn to face the daily grind and live the cash deprived ordeal than many of the lover classes, or peasants if you like, call life.
Usually the rich and privileged only want to dip their toe into the desperate and deprived world of the commoner for a day or two, and their 'reality' experience is always a very sanitized watered down version of the real mcoy.
However, it makes them feel good, justified, and righteous, and that's what counts. Well, that and the considerable media coverage.
During his time on the mean streets, Kate Middleton's husband was joined by the chief executive of Centrepoint - Seyi Obakin, who said about Prince Wiliam's visit to the homeless centre in the deprived London of Caberwell, "He always said he (Willy boy!) didn't want to be a stand off ornamental patron, so he takes an interest in what goes on with us and we keep him regularly briefed so he knows what's going on, on all fronts."
The Prince and Kate Middleton arrived in a chauffeur driven car decked out in designer gear and reeking of money, but Mr Obakin firmly believes that when a royal chats to a young person and then six months down the line meets them again and asks how they're doing, then, "that's hugely powerful for young people".
Mr Obakin added, "For somebody of his ilk, of his own accord to want to come here and meet them is a powerful motivator - says there is somebody who cares."
